The Second Captain John Smith Cruise
Our annual summer cruise will be from June 14th to June 22nd. We will again visit some of the areas Captain Smith visited during his voyages of exploration in 1608. The ports of call will be Herring Bay, Solomons, St. Leonards Creek, Taylors Island, and Cambridge. In 1608 Captain Smith visited the Patuxent River where he found many villages of naturals and a terming amount of finfish and shellfish in the deep river. Our cruise will include visits to the Calvert Maritime Museum and Jefferson Patterson Park where the history of the area is on display. Taylors Island will offer a view of what the Chesapeake area was before development since it is on the perimeter of several wildlife sanctuaries. Our final port of call will be at the Cambridge Yacht Club the site of our final dinner.
If you are planning to go on the cruise, please contact me at 410 757 0049 or by e mail at ronalbre@comcast.net. Further details will be given at a cruise planning meeting in May.
